You can easily make your own scaffolding and ladders from wood if you do not want to use the metal commercially available ones. If you use a strong hard wood then they should last many years and serve you many building projects. We made some of the basic scaffolding below two years ago, they have been sat around outside for over two years now in all weather conditions, and we are still using them now to build another cob house.
So here they are in situ. You can use them up to about the level of the bottom of your first floor depending on the type of work you are doing.

And you can easily make a ladder using wood. Just make sure to use a hard or strong wood to ensure that it doesnt break when you are half way up with a bucket of cob
